a peek into my studio –– notebook, sketchbooks, painting, writing & all manner of projects.
Projects across sewing, painting, illustration, graphic design and writing. Each piece opens a short note on what I was after.
Zena-Marie Gonzalez is a multidisciplinary artist working between a sewing table, a painting wall and a stack of notebooks in South San Francisco. Her practice moves between cloth, pigment and language — often in the same week, sometimes in the same afternoon.
She grew up between two worlds — the Bay Area fog on one side, the warm hills of Jalisco on the other, where her family’s roots still run deep. Summers at her abuela’s house in Tepatitlán — the tiled courtyard, the hand-embroidered servilletas folded in a drawer, the long afternoons of people working patiently with their hands — taught her that making from what’s already there was simply how a day was spent. Her work keeps returning, quietly, to that inheritance.
